Join us as we celebrate the unveiling of a new community mural at the historic Maynard Fine Arts Theatre. Created through the participation of local students, seniors, group homes, and community organizations, the project reflects the creativity, collaboration, and spirit of Maynard. The Maynard Fine Arts Theatre will host a grand reveal of the completed mural on June 23rd at 6PM, coinciding with the premiere of the short film “Still Showing: Maynard Fine Arts Theatre 1949-Today.”

Genderqueer inclusion consultant, Ali Kane (she/they) will share queer stories from the 1600s to the 1960s. From these accounts, you will gain a glimpse into queer lives throughout history, as well as explore how these truths were uncovered and strategies for preserving queer history today. Sign up here!

Many state songs are barely known by the residents of that state, but most of this program’s state songs will be familiar to everyone in the room. Home on the Range (Kansas), You Are My Sunshine (Louisiana) Yankee Doodle (Connecticut), Carry Me Back to Old Virginny, Oklahoma, and Georgia on My Mind are the most recognizable of the bunch. Here is an interesting fact: Roll on Columbia (Washington) was written by Woody Guthrie and his son Arlo Guthrie wrote Massachusetts, one of our own seven state songs. Two more of these state songs are credited to Stephen Foster--Swanee River (Florida)

East Acton is a well-preserved time capsule of Acton’s history. Although not formally classified as a Historic District, the village of East Acton played a significant role in the development of Acton. Topics include Native American history, the role Nashoba Brook, the importance of Captain Joseph Robbins and his family, Woodlawn Cemetery, and more. Visit Acton Senior Rainbow Connections (previously known as the Rainbow Planning Team) table at this year’s Acton-Westford Pride Festival at the NARA Park Amphitheater, 25 Ledge Rock Way, Acton. This group, previously called the Rainbow Planning Team, consists of LGBTQ+ older adults as well as municipal employees, friends, and allies.
