Warrior Women’s Sports Club grows and chalks up wins

May 23, 2026

The Warrior Women’s Sports Club is quickly becoming one of the fastest-growing women’s recreational and competitive sports communities in the region. Founded just two years ago, the club, described in a 2024 Acton Exchange article, has already built a strong presence by creating opportunities for women to participate in cricket and other sports while fostering teamwork, fitness, and community engagement. The majority of the players are from Acton, though the sportswomen hail from multiple towns, including Burlington and Bedford. This spring, the women-run club won the Women’s Box Cricket League tournament. Box cricket is usually played indoors, on a smaller field and where the ball hitting the net is used for scoring.

This year marks an exciting new chapter for the club, with several experienced players joining the roster, including athletes who have competed at the national level in cricket. Their arrival is expected to strengthen the club’s competitive edge while also mentoring newer players entering the sport.

The club’s momentum has been fueled by its partnership with United Cricket League (UCL) in Lexington, Massachusetts. This collaboration enables them to play year round. Together, the organizations hosted multiple tournaments last year and are preparing for an even bigger season of competitions and community events in 2026.

Among the club’s recent accomplishments:

  • Warrior Women, led by Captain Pari Bhongle of Acton, won the Women’s Box Cricket League (WBCL) Spring 2026 tournament, earning first place honors.
  • The club captured a tournament victory against UCL in July 2025.
  • Warrior Women and UCL jointly organized an Independence Day mix-and-match tournament in August 2025, bringing together players from across the community.
  • The team participated in the TMM Tournament (Tamil Makkal Mandram) in August 2024, continuing to expand its tournament presence across Massachusetts.

Beyond competition, the club has become an important platform for promoting women’s participation in sports and building connections within the local South Asian and broader Massachusetts communities.

Club organizers say the focus remains on creating an inclusive and supportive environment where women of all skill levels can learn, compete, and grow together. The club plays cricket and badminton outside. They are already planning indoor cricket for the winter, sometimes together with the United Cricket League. With increasing membership, experienced leadership, and a packed tournament calendar ahead, Warrior Women’s Sports Club is poised for another successful year.
