The Acton-Boxborough Regional School Committee is seeking community members to serve on a new Elementary Budget Task Force. Superintendent Peter Light sent the following memo to the Acton Exchange:

Members of the AB Community,

We need your help! We are seeking students, educators, parents/caregivers, and community members to serve on an Elementary Budget Task Force. This task force is being formed in response to questions that arose last year around the District’s elementary budget and open enrollment policy. The task force will work with our consultant, New Solutions K12 to:

  1. Review, endorse, and validate information gathered by our consultant, New Solutions K12.
  2. Recommend to the school committee 2-3 priority options for budget strategies that balance the needs of our students, staff, and taxpayers.

We are looking for diverse perspectives that represent our community to help with this important work. We would like to invite you to apply for this important task force. Applications must be submitted by 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 17th.

The overall composition of the task force is 27 members:

  • One-third (9 members) of the task force will be individuals who express interest through this application
  • One-third of the task force will be individuals who are randomly selected and then invited
  • One-third of the task force will be individuals whom the school committee deemed essential as participants

We have 9 openings available for individuals who would like to apply. The roles we are seeking include:

  • 1 Administrator (School or District)
  • 2 Teachers
  • 1 Staff member (non-teacher)
  • 2 Parents/caregivers
  • 1 Student (high school age)
  • 2 Community members-at-large

We invite you to review our potential list of Potential Community Perspectives that will help us prioritize who is selected for participation. It is critical that participants are available for all of our meetings.
