Stephen Robert Noone, 78, of Acton, Massachusetts, passed away suddenly on April 27, 2026, at his summer home in Antrim, New Hampshire. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Linda Farley Noone; his three daughters: Stephanie Oliver, Caitlin Tompkins, and Lesley Noone; sons-in-law Justin Oliver and Tyler Tompkins, and grandchildren DJ, Miles, Elliot, Connor, and Eva, who brought him immense joy. He is survived by his older brother, Richard, and his wife, Jan, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, James Patrick Noone and Thelma Dorothea Upton Noone.
Steve was born on October 26, 1947, in Lynn, Massachusetts. He graduated from Lynn English High School, Class of 1965, and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Economics from Northeastern University in 1970, followed by an MBA from the University of Southern California in 1971. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant through the ROTC program and proudly served in the United States Army. Steve met the love of his life, Linda, while they were both working at GTE Sylvania. They were married on May 5, 1979, in Lexington, Massachusetts, beginning a partnership defined by devotion, warmth, humor, and shared adventure.
Steve enjoyed a distinguished career in finance and consulting. After Sylvania, he spent 20 years at W.R. Grace, including 5 years in Tokyo, Japan, as the Chief Financial Officer of Grace Japan. He was a consultant with Deloitte & Touche and served as Chief Financial Officer of Lutco, Inc. for 17 years before retiring in 2017.
Steve was a dedicated volunteer in his spare time. Deeply committed to community service, he served as a member of the Town of Acton Finance Committee for over 20 years. He also held board positions with ABYS Soccer, Nagog Woods Community Corp, Retired Men’s Group of Sudbury, and White Birch Point Association, NH. His quiet confidence allowed for capable mediation and problem-solving. His integrity, insight, and steady leadership left a lasting impact on his community.
Steve embraced life with curiosity and enthusiasm. An avid reader throughout his life, he possessed an extraordinary memory and could recall historical facts and details with remarkable ease. He had a love for playing tennis and hiking in his younger years. He hiked portions of the Appalachian Trail, the Swiss Alps, as well as to the top of Mt. Fuji. He was a lifelong Boston sports fan – especially the Celtics – and found great joy in sharing that passion with family and friends. He brought his love of sports into coaching many of his daughters’ youth sports teams. Steve loved to travel and had visited six of the seven continents and countless countries. He particularly enjoyed places with historical significance, never missing a chance to see a fort or battlefield. In his retirement, he loved cruising the world with Linda. Since 1993, Steve enjoyed spending his summers at the family cottage in Antrim, NH. He was truly at his happiest sitting in the shade on the beach watching his children and grandchildren swim in the lake.
Above all, Steve will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, trusted advisor, and loyal friend. His intellect, generosity, humor, and kindness will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
