Adam Richard Mitchell-Hardt, 41, passed away amid the beauty of the Remutaka Cycle Trail in Masterson, NZ on May 3, 2025. A Celebration of life service will be held at First Parish in Concord, MA (20 Lexington Road) on June 14 at 2 p.m. EDT.
Born on July 7, 1983 in Boston, MA, Adam joined what would become a big family and lived on a four acre horse farm filled with animals. Adam attended Colgate University where he was part of the rowing team and Theta Chi Fraternity. After graduating in 2005, he commenced a corporate career that got going in San Francisco at Genentech and culminated in tech sales at Double Dutch. It was there where he learned to surf, took up zen meditation, and built a vibrant community. While everyone has their own process of creating meaning in their lives, Adam took this quest of finding purpose and authentic connection with a particular gravity. As he transitioned away from the corporate world he started his own coaching business aimed at helping people make career transitions that were in greater alignment with their purpose. As he built his business he courageously explored the world and continued the hard work of turning inward. This all informed his work as he continued to iterate his offerings to support people in finding their path. After leaving California, he moved to Costa Rica where he built a rich community of like minded people focused on connection with nature and expanding self expression. Adam continued his love of surfing, meditation, and yoga. He deepened his creative capacities, honing his songwriting and performance skills, and often attended ecstatic dance in a beautiful jungle shala. His adventurous spirit brought him to New Zealand where, in the last few months of his life, he wrote a book that he hoped would support others through their own inward exploration and self discovery, a book that would share what he gleaned from his life’s work.
Adam is survived by his parents, Susan and David Mitchell-Hardt, his two brothers, Matt (Cathy) and Alex Mitchell-Hardt, and his sister, Molly Mitchell-Hardt Field (Zachary). He is also survived by his nephews, Hunter, Wyatt, Kai, and Roch.
Adam will be remembered for his bravery, curiosity, playfulness, sincerity, and kindness. Everyone who knew him felt touched by his depth and his heart, and many have since shared how one conversation with him changed their lives.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Dreamcatchers Foundation for children in Nosara, Costa Rica at dreamcatchercr.org, a cause close to Adam’s heart.
