The Boxborough Museum at 575 Middle Road is open on second Sundays from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Come see Boxborough’s historic treasures including the 1850’s scale which is sensitive enough to weigh a penny and strong enough to calibrate a 50 pound weight, the “new” hearse built in 1881, and the “old” hearse (come and see how old is old). The Acton-Boxborough Community Compass (AB Resource Center) Mental Wellness Team presents Dayna Altman’s “Bake It Till You Make It” baking presentation and community potluck. Using ingredients as metaphors, Dayna chronicles her struggles with major depression, OCD and an eating disorder through a presentation of honesty, hope and inspiration. The Town of Acton has engaged Howard Stein Hudson to study feasible Complete Streets accommodations for the Stow Street corridor from the Stow town line to the Martin Street, Stow Street, Liberty Street intersection, including the Jones Field Playground. The purpose of this meeting is to share two complete streets design alternatives that have been drafted by Howard Stein Hudson based off residents’ feedback from the first public meeting and a survey. This unique performance blends stories from the beloved books by Laura Ingalls Wilder with live music to bring to life the music that was a vital part of the pioneers’ lives. There are 127 songs and tunes mentioned in the books, many played by Laura’s “Pa,” an expert fiddler. Many of the songs are well known, such as those by Stephen Foster, but some will be new to you. Performers are Patricia Sette, narrator, singer and author of the script; David Shnaider, narrator singer and guitar player; Ann Seigel, fiddler. The audience is invited to join in on many songs!
Join Asako Judson to learn about Korean rice cakes called tteok (pronounced “tok”) and a popular dish made with them called tteokbokki (pronounced “tok-bo-ki”). The ingredients and how they are used will be explained. Two versions will be demonstrated: a slightly spicy snack-style dish and another version that can be served as dinner. The Acton Community Services Office within the Department of Health and Human Services, in partnership with MetroWest Legal Services, will host a monthly housing legal clinic beginning in January. Housing Legal Clinic appointments will begin on Jan. 14 and will be held on the second Tuesday of each month from 4-6 p.m. at the Human Service and Senior Center, 30 Sudbury Road Rear. Have you tried the Acton 250 Committee’s Isaac Davis Brown Ale? Join the Acton 250 Committee April 17th at Dirigible Brewing Company as we reintroduce our commemorative ale in time for the 250th celebration of American Independence. This ale is representative of one beer style available to the colonial patriots. Dirigible Brewing will have this on draft, in cans, and on cask. Food trucks will be on site.

At the end of the afternoon the Acton Minutemen will gather, with musket drills followed by a re-enactment commemorating the alarm rider who brought the news of the British marching on Concord. The horse and rider will leave Concord Road (at the soccer field) at 5:00 pm, with the eventual best viewing at the Faulkner house (about 5:30 pm). Parking on nearby public lots.
