Iron Work Farm continues our series of combined “4th Sunday” events with museum open houses at both Iron Work Farm locations: Jones Tavern: 1 -3 pm - Open House. The Friends of the Acton Council on Aging proudly announce that the Honoring Excellence program will host Holocaust Survivor, Author and Public Speaker Janet Singer Applefield. Janet wrote a memoir about her experience as a Jewish child in Poland, surviving by taking on the identity of a deceased Catholic girl and hiding in plain sight with the aid of strangers. Her father, weighing just 110 pounds, survived the Theresienstadt camp-ghetto and reunited with his daughter. Join the ACC organist, Liz Carley, for a free 30 minute concert and lecture on some of the spooky music associated with Hallowe’en. Liz will give a little history of Hallowe’en and play one or two serious organ pieces. Then the fun begins with singing some classic silly Hallowe’en songs. Bring a brown bag lunch and have lunch with us after the concert in our fellowship hall. You bring the interest and the sandwiches, and we'll provide the music, juice, and cookies. (DVSN) will host its annual Light in the Darkness Candlelight Vigil on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at 6:00 PM at the Lexington Community Center, 39 Marret Road, Lexington. “Hockomock” in Algonquin means "land where spirits dwell” and is a revered Wampanoag sacred site, and later a “Devil’s Swamp” for English settlers. Join Dan Boudillion and Bettina Abe for a 2-mile hike at Hockomock Swamp, a Massachusetts Wildlife Management Area in Raynham, Mass. There is much lore surrounding the history of Hockomock Swamp, beginning in the 1600s. The area is the largest freshwater swamp in the state and is known for sightings of floating orbs of light, ghostly voices, and phantom drums linked to its past as an ancient burial ground and a natural fortress during King Phillip’s War.

The Friends of Pine Hawk annual fall community service day is planned for the afternoon of Sunday, November 9, 2025 at 1pm. This year the event will again focus on the Trail Through Time, a heritage trail through town-owned conservation lands in North Acton. The Trail includes sites and stone structures representative of two distinct cultures, the colonial and the Native American, that existed both serially and concurrently within a relatively small geographical area. The Boxborough Museum at 575 Middle Road is open on second Sundays from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Come see Boxborough’s historic treasures including the 1850’s scale which is sensitive enough to weigh a penny and strong enough to calibrate a 50 pound weight, the “new” hearse built in 1881, and the “old” hearse (come and see how old is old). The Town of Acton’s Department of Veteran Services and the Celebrations and Ceremonies Committee invite all community members to join in honoring our nation’s Veterans at this year’s Veterans Day Ceremony. The ceremony will take place outdoors, weather permitting, at the Isaac Davis Monument on the Town Common. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved indoors to the Faulkner Room (Room 204) at Town Hall. Attendees are encouraged to park behind Town Hall or the Fire Station.

The Boxborough Esker Walk in memory of George Krusen is sponsored by both the Boxborough Conservation Trust (BCTrust) and the Friends of Pinehawk. The landscape of Boxborough was sculpted over millions of years, but some of the most dramatic features formed “only” about 15,000 years ago.
