  • Acton COA Presents: The Railroad in Song with Jon & Li Waterman

    Acton Senior Center 30 Sudbury Road Rear, Acton, MA

    Join acoustic duo Jon and Li Waterman on a tour of songs about trains, the building of the railroad, workers on the railroad, train wrecks, heroes and hobos. The program looks at the Transcontinental Railroad, the contribution of Chinese and Irish immigrants, the stories of Casey Jones and John Henry, the Old 97 train wreck, the Great migration and more. The show consists of songs, history, and an accompanying slide presentation. Jon and Li Waterman perform as the acoustic duo Sultana whose performances are enthusiastically received at the Senior Center. Jon has been performing his original songs throughout his life.

    Gnargonauts is the area mountain bike team for youth in Grades 5 - 12. At this info session, you will have a chance to meet the coaches and current riders. We will provide an overview of the team and New England Youth Cycling and explain how we approach skills development. There will be optional bike games outside, so bring a bike and helmet.     The Senior Choir of Acton Congregational Church along with guest singers from area choruses will present Margaret Bonds’s masterwork, Credo, as part of its special Good Friday service on April 3rd. Bonds composed Credo in 1965, setting to music the powerful and inspirational words written by W.E.B. Du Bois in 1904. Modern performers and audience can find elements of Credo uncomfortable, in part because the work forces us to confront the injustice of American slavery and its legacy head on, as both Du Bois and Bonds intended.For more information about this piece, see https://www.actonc.org/post/good-friday-credo.     Who dunnit? You decide! An exciting, live, comedic, interactive, spicy murder mystery performance set in Luigi’s Ristorante featuring Lynne Moulton, Joseph Zamparelli and Fran Baron of the Delvena Theatre Company in multiple roles. Come put your “super sleuth” on—and have a lot of fun along the way! Token prizes will be awarded. This program is supported by a grant from the Acton-Boxborough Cultural Council, a local agency, which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency. Open to all age 60+/free
