You’ll hear the stories behind It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas by Broadway composer Meredith Willson (of Music Man fame) and country star Willie Nelson’s Pretty Paper. Did you know that songwriter Johnny Marks had written three big hits during these years? Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree (Brenda Lee), A Holly Jolly Christmas (Burl Ives) and Run Rudolph Run (Chuck Berry)? And in the 1950s there were novelty songs galore like The Chipmunk Song, I’m Getting’ Nuttin’ for Christmas

    First Religious Society of Carlisle 27 School Street, Carlisle

    The Carlisle Dance, with its accompanying potluck dinner, is known as the most sociable dance in the area. Arrive at 6:30 for  dinner and conversation, and then dance from 8 until 10. Live music by the Carlisle Band, who bring an eclectic collection of instruments. Outstanding local callers call mostly contradances, plus occasional square and circle dances. Admission is just $6-10 (self-determined sliding scale) for all ages, along with your tasty and creative contribution for the meal.   • Santa’s Firetruck Ride

    Santa will visit the neighborhoods of Acton on Saturday, December 13th 2025 from 9:00 A.M. - 3:00 P.M .! The Jolly fellow will ride in a vintage 1936 REO fire truck, escorted by the Acton Fire Department. Come one, come all! Be sure to bring your wish list. The purchase of these Fair Trade items benefit the artisans who made them – Mayan Hands collaborates with 15 artisan groups in the rural Guatemalan highlands, representing about 200 skilled craftswomen; UPAVIM’s member cooperative, located in a “Red Zone” of Guatemala City plagued by gang and violence, is comprised of more than 70 women working as seamstresses and making handicrafts.     Boxborough Museum open house

    Boxborough Museum 575 Middle Road, Boxborough, MA

    The Boxborough Museum at 575 Middle Road is open on second Sundays from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.  Come see Boxborough’s historic treasures including the 1850’s scale which is sensitive enough to weigh a penny and strong enough to calibrate a 50 pound weight, the “new” hearse built in 1881, and the “old” hearse (come and see how old is old).  Admission is free and all are welcome.     Acton Senior Center 30 Sudbury Road Rear, Acton, MA

    Longtime New England musician Matt York will be performing a selection of music with a holiday theme. The songs will run the gamut from those that have been around for hundreds of years to more modern Christmas and holiday classics. Singing along is encouraged! Matt’s program combines guitar/vocal performance and interesting stories about the origins of the songs. Matt York was twice been nominated for the Boston Music Award for Best Country Artist and his album Gently Used was named one of the top albums by Worcester Magazine.
