If you are a registered voter in Acton, today is your day to participate in democracy! There are three contested races on the ballot: Select Board School Committee Water Commissioner In addition, there are two ballot questions: Ballot question 1 asks whether the town is allowed to pay for a new Department of Public Works building outside the normal limits of Proposition 2 1/2. Ballot question 2 asks the town to increase the number of members in the Historic District Commission from 6 to 7 (the closest odd number). The program model involves reading the Great Decisions Briefing Book and meeting in a Discussion Group to discuss the most critical global issues facing America today. This month's topic will be on the U.S. pullback from supporting International Benefit Organizations. The current administration is removing support for USAID (Agency for International Development), UNESCO (Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization), UNHRC (Human Rights Council), UNICEF (International Children's Emergency Fund), UNRWA (Relief and Works Agency) and UNWHO (World Health Organization).
