Acton Police Chief James Cogan retires

A roomful of well-wishers praised and applauded Acton Police Chief James Cogan, as he officially retired on Friday, March 27, after 42 years with the Town’s Police Department. Fellow Acton police officers, retired and present-day, as well as firefighters, legislators, and family members were on hand for the celebratory event.

During his career, Cogan rose through the ranks from patrol officer to detective to youth officer in charge of the DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program in the Acton schools, and deputy chief, before becoming chief of police.

Prior to serving in Acton, he spent a year with the Police Department in Maynard, the town where he grew up. He thanked his wife Jill and other family members for their steadfast support during his long career.
