Spring sports season at Acton-Boxborough Regional High School (AB, ABRHS) is wrapping up and, for a lot of programs, the real work is just beginning. From state contenders to first-round upsets in the making, here’s where every team stands heading into the playoffs.
Boys Lacrosse
Boys Lacrosse is perhaps the best sports program Acton-Boxborough has had over the past couple of decades. After a rocky 1-2 start, the boys didn’t lose another game, winning the in-season Players Cup and finishing as the 4 seed in the state, extending their streak of top-6 finishes to 14 years in a row. They open against 29th-seeded Beverly, a matchup they should handle comfortably. The bigger story is their bracket placement: AB is on the same side as Lincoln-Sudbury, the clear title favorite and a familiar rival. A potential Final Four meeting between the two could be the game of the tournament. Having reached the Final Four three years running, this team isn’t satisfied just getting there.
Girls Lacrosse
Girls Lacrosse finished the 2026 season with their highest seed in years. As the 10 seed, they opened the playoffs with a dominant 23-14 win over 23rd-seeded Shrewsbury on Tuesday, May 26 at Leary Field. AB now advances to the Round of 16, where they’ll face either 26th-seeded Boston Latin or 7th-seeded Wellesley.

Boys Volleyball
Boys Volleyball started off slowly, dropping 4 of their first 6 games. But a win against eventual 9th-seeded Cambridge Rindge & Latin sparked a strong finish, helping AB close out the year 11-8 and earn the 10 seed. In the first round they’ll likely face a Boston Latin squad that gave them trouble in a 3-1 loss earlier this season. Win a couple and AB could have a shot at revenge against Brookline — a program that’s eliminated them two of the past three postseasons.

Baseball
Unfortunately, ABRHS Baseball missed out on the playoffs this year, finishing with a 3-13 record.
Softball
This Softball team has the talent to bring AB back to the state limelight. Finishing 13-3 — their best record since their run to the state title in 2019 — the girls landed 19th in the state. They open with a tough road matchup against Bishop Feehan, but after a great regular season filled with win streaks and rivalry wins, this team should be rolling with confidence.
Boys tennis
Boys Tennis finished 3-9, landing them the 21st seed — a disappointing record by their standards, though it came against the toughest schedule in the state. They’ll look to pull off an upset against 12th-seeded Belmont on the road, continuing a run of postseason success that’s seen them routinely reach the Round of 8 and even claim a state championship back in 2022.
Girls tennis
Girls Tennis put together another impressive season, going 10-4 and earning the 7 seed in the state. Upsets in tennis don’t come around too often, but this year’s squad is skilled and looks poised for a deep run. It will start with a win against 26th-seeded Beverly away from home — a very winnable opener for a team with real title aspirations.
It’s a big postseason for AB athletics across the board. With multiple programs seeded to make deep runs, this spring could be one to remember. Stay tuned.
