As described in last week’s Acton Exchange, drivers heading south on Route 27 through Maynard are about to experience yet another construction bottleneck this month. Work is planned for the intersection with Concord Street, in the same area that was torn up by Eversource Gas back in May and June of this year. Traffic will be detoured down Acton Street, across from Christmas Motors, and rejoin Route 27 where it passes the Cumberland Farms convenience store, on the way to downtown Maynard.

Thankfully, the bulk of the work will only continue for about 4 weeks. And it’s all for a good cause, as the intersection will finally have traffic signals, something residents have been waiting years for. A detailed news story is available on Maynard’s Town Wide Mall website.

The signals themselves will go live sometime this fall, when the final stages of the work are completed. The plan is to arrange the timing to ease traffic flow on Route 27 and, at the same time, prevent accidents with pedestrians or with vehicles entering from Concord Street, in either direction.

For news about what’s happening farther up on Route 27, you can find information about Kelley’s Corner at Acton’s Kelley’s Corner Construction Communication page.
