Obituary: Rosemary Szafran

Rosemary (Larkin) Szafran, 81, of Pembroke, formerly of Acton, MA, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2025.

Rosemary was born and raised in Braintree, MA and graduated from Archbishop Williams High School. She continued her education at Stonehill College, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in mathematics. 

Rosemary went on to work at Mitre and then IBM, where she met her loving husband, John. The couple married in 1968 and settled in Acton, MA where they raised their four children. Summers were spent on Cape Cod, with many happy memories of days on the boat or beach, and afternoons in the back yard of the cottage on Pine Tree Court. The couple retired to Massachusetts’ south shore to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

Rosemary was a life-long, unwavering Red Sox fan and a devout Catholic. She loved nothing more than to host a gathering of family and friends.  She was an incredibly loving and supportive mother and grandmother, and a loyal friend with a quick wit. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her children Jeffrey Szafran of Plymouth, Marilyn Szafran of Vermont, Daniel (Kerri) Szafran of Duxbury, Christine (Brian) Fisher of Duxbury and daughter-in-law Kimberly Szafran of Marshfield.  Proud Grandmother of Matthew, Ryan, Jacob and Kylie Szafran; Jesse Yaverbaum; Ashleigh and Anna Szafran; and Jack and Cailey Fisher.

She is also survived by her sisters, Grace Abourjaily, Ann (Joe) Batal and Louise (Robert) Crespi, her sister-in-law Carol Larkin, along with her brother John (Donna) Larkin and many nieces and nephews.

Rosemary was predeceased by her beloved husband, John, her parents, Richard and MaryRose Larkin, and her brothers, David and Paul Larkin.

Visiting hours will be on Sunday, January 4th from 1-4pm at Shepherd’s Funeral Home, Kingston MA.  A funeral mass will be on Monday, January 5th at 10:00am, Holy Family Church, Duxbury MA. Interment for Rosemary and John at Mayflower Cemetery, Duxbury MA will be immediately following the funeral.The family would like to recognize Bridges in Pembroke for the wonderful care and love Rosemary received.
