Dick was born and raised in Melrose, Massachusetts and graduated from Melrose High School. He attended M.I.T. and graduated in 1956 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Dick enjoyed his growing family, woodworking, playing duplicate bridge, ping pong, studying the stars, and rooting for all the Boston sports teams.

Dick was predeceased by his parents, Richard and Gladys, and by his son, Ricky. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Jackie; daughter, Sandy VanDerWerf; son Bob and daughter-in-law, Helen; his sister, Betsy Gerakaris; seven grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
