In celebration of the 250th anniversary of the start of the Revolution, the Iron Work Farm launches the first event in our family-friendly series on Colonial Life, with “Where did that coat come from?” at the Faulkner Homestead, 5 High Street, from 1 to 4:00 p.m. How did people obtain clothing and blankets to stay warm? In this interactive program you will learn how fibers were grown and processed before being made into clothing. For our final concert of the 2024-2025 season, we will revisit a favorite masterwork, Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem. We will sing it in the chamber music setting, with two pianists, one being our own, Shawn McCann, and Abigail Charbeneau, which gives the work a sense of intimacy, tenderness, and balance not always found in the orchestral version. Open to out-of-town seniors beginning April 8th The Acton Council on Aging (COA) is offering a free community CarFit event in the Senior Center parking lot. CarFit is designed to give a quick but comprehensive check on how well an older driver and their vehicle work together with a focus on comfort, safety, and mobility. The Select Board will host a public forum about the new Department of Public Works facility before the Select Board meeting. The forum includes a presentation from the design team and time for questions and answers. Funding for a new DPW building requires a Yes vote on Question 1 and a 2/3 majority vote on Article 7 at Town Meeting.
If you are a registered voter in Acton, today is your day to participate in democracy! There are three contested races on the ballot: Select Board School Committee Water Commissioner In addition, there are two ballot questions: Ballot question 1 asks whether the town is allowed to pay for a new Department of Public Works building outside the normal limits of Proposition 2 1/2. Ballot question 2 asks the town to increase the number of members in the Historic District Commission from 6 to 7 (the closest odd number). Walk the trails in Acton’s conservation areas with the goal of earning a sticker and a sew-on patch! These weekly walks are a joint effort between Acton Conservation Trust and Acton Conservation Division. We’ll walk a different conservation area weekly, on Wednesdays from April 9 to June 11.
