Acton is hosting a Community Wellness Fair — a community-wide event bringing together residents, local businesses, and organizations around the theme of living well and staying connected. The fair covers a range of topics including fitness, recreation, physical activity, mental and emotional well-being, and more. The Sudbury Commission on Disability invites residents of Acton and surrounding communities to experience the joy of cycling along the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail at a free adaptive cycling event. Hosted in partnership with the Sudbury Rail Trails Advisory Committee and All Out Adventures, one-hour riding sessions will be offered between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. at Broadacres Farm in Sudbury. Participants of all ages and abilities can choose from a variety of adaptive cycles, including recumbent trikes, handcycles, and tandem bikes, with trained staff on-site to provide support in a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment. The West Acton Baptist Church is offering another chance to Ring their Historic Bell! On Saturday, June 6th 12-3pm the doors will be open for a $5/Bag Pop-Up Thrift & Bell Ringing as a fundraiser for the Historic Steeple Project set to begin this month. This 1854 Bronze Bell was cast by Henry Hooper in a forge once owned by Paul Revere. For a $20 donation one or two people may ring this extraordinary bell; for $30 up to 4 children or adults in a family may ring the bell. Donors will be given a sticker that proclaims, “I Rang
The Iron Work Farm opens the old tavern taproom for a celebratory history lesson in Whiskey Production in Colonial Times. Guests will sample authentic tavern drinks that were somewhat different from what’s available today and learn about early tavern culture before and after the Revolution. Open to out-of-towners age 60+ starting April 6th for $20/series Langston Hughes (1901-1967) was a Harlem poet, playwright, novelist and short story writer. He was a leading member of The Harlem Renaissance and was greatly influenced by the poetry of Walt Whitman. His poems continually ask the question: What does it mean to be an American? We will study many of his iconic poems and read three of his short stories. Students should purchase Vintage Hughes, published by Vintage Books in paperback that retails for $14.
