    The Especially for Me series offers dedicated hours and free admission for families with disabilities. During these events, we offer accommodations that increase access to exhibits and provide an opportunity for families to network with one another in an understanding, ADA-compliant environment. While the event titles indicate the focus for certain program accommodations, any family that would benefit from a sensory friendly visit is welcome at any time. A medical diagnosis is not required.     The Boxborough Museum at 575 Middle Road is open on second Sundays from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.  Come see Boxborough’s historic treasures including the 1850’s scale which is sensitive enough to weigh a penny and strong enough to calibrate a 50 pound weight, the “new” hearse built in 1881, and the “old” hearse (come and see how old is old).  Admission is free and all are welcome.     The Acton-Boxborough Community Compass  (AB Resource Center) Mental Wellness Team presents Dayna Altman’s “Bake It Till You Make It”  baking presentation and community potluck.   Using ingredients as metaphors, Dayna chronicles her struggles with major depression, OCD and an eating disorder through a presentation of honesty, hope and inspiration.  Bring your favorite appetizer or dessert (store bought is ok!) and stay for a scrumptious potluck with community-minded neighbors.   • The Acton COA presents There is a Happy Land: Music & Stories from the Little House on the Prairie Books

    Acton Senior Center 30 Sudbury Road Rear, Acton, MA

    This unique performance blends stories from the beloved books by Laura Ingalls Wilder with live music to bring to life the music that was a vital part of the pioneers’ lives. There are 127 songs and tunes mentioned in the books, many played by Laura’s “Pa,” an expert fiddler. Many of the songs are well known, such as those by Stephen Foster, but some will be new to you. Performers are Patricia Sette, narrator, singer and author of the script; David Shnaider, narrator singer and guitar player; Ann Seigel, fiddler. The audience is invited to join in on many songs!

  • Acton COA Invites You to Korean Tteok and Tteokbokki Cooking Demonstration

    Acton Senior Center 30 Sudbury Road Rear, Acton, MA

    Join Asako Judson to learn about Korean rice cakes called tteok (pronounced “tok”) and a popular dish made with them called tteokbokki (pronounced “tok-bo-ki”). The ingredients and how they are used will be explained. Two versions will be demonstrated: a slightly spicy snack-style dish and another version that can be served as dinner. Registration is required; please inform the COA if you find you cannot attend. Asako Judson, who lives in Acton, has worked at several restaurants and as a private chef and caterer.     The Acton Community Services Office within the Department of Health and Human Services, in partnership with MetroWest Legal Services, will host a monthly housing legal clinic beginning in January.  Housing Legal Clinic appointments will begin on Jan. 14 and will be held on the second Tuesday of each month from 4-6 p.m. at the Human Service and Senior Center, 30 Sudbury Road Rear. Before you attend a session, you must complete the following registration form, which can be found here. The program, which is funded by the American Rescue Plan Act, will run until Dec. 31, 2026.
