The new racquet club opened its doors in August at the complex formerly occupied by Marcus Lewis. Jerry Abrams has owned the property since 1998 and is owner of the new club. The buildings have been freshened with new paint, carpets, lighting, and furnishings. The outdoor tennis courts have been rebuilt, and much of the parking has been repaved.

The club offers four indoor pickle ball courts, six indoor tennis courts and four outdoor tennis courts. Po Grant and Paco Maroto are the administrators as well as tennis pros. Paco, a native of Spain, founded Alligator Shot two years ago, a teaching school using the “Spanish Method” taught by the Rafal Nadal Academy in Mallorca Spain.

Courts can be reserved online, and a membership fee is not required. Actonraquetclub.com.

Groundbreaking at Marcus Lewis Racquet Club

Marcus Lewis, a long-time fixture in the region’s tennis community, brought together his full team to celebrate breaking ground for his new tennis and pickle ball facility. Trees had been felled on the lot behind the River of Life Church off 45 Nagog Park Road and heavy excavation equipment was digging up stumps and preparing the site for construction.

Two of the three buildings in the new complex will be fabric over a metal frame and will stay up year-round. One will house eight pickleball courts (24,000 sq. ft.) and the other, six tennis courts (43,000 sq. ft.). Locker rooms, conference room, fitness equipment, and office space are in a connected clubhouse (3900sq.ft.). Projected opening is in February 2026.

At the groundbreaking, Hayley Barnes, business manager and pickle ball coordinator, introduced Lewis, who stepped up in front of a publicity sign and four big blue balloons that spelled M L R C. He thanked everyone for coming and expressed his appreciation for everyone from his office workers to tennis and pickle ball pros, his banker, his architect, and his general contractor. Ken Cancelli, his long-time facilities manager, received special mention.
