Aug. 3, Acton Center common: For the fortieth consecutive month, Acton-area veterans and patriots conducted a short ceremony to honor veterans who gave the ultimate price for America. Dave Lunger led the thirteen attendees, who hailed from Acton, Carlisle, and Hudson, in the Pledge of Allegiance. He then reflected on the Aug. 27,1776 Battle of Brooklyn during the Revolutionary War, where General Washington led a strategic retreat that saved his troops and eventually turned the tide of the war.

Next, Air Force veteran Dick Testa read a prayer for the deceased veterans. Finally, ABRHS student John Qi sounded taps on the bugle, followed by Air Force veteran Herman Kabakoff blowing echo taps from across the street.
