Bingo with a spark: Seniors learn to save with clean energy

November 1, 2025

On Tuesday, October 21, the Acton Sustainability Office and the Council on Aging hosted a joint event, Energy Bingo, at the Acton Senior Center. The program was led by Sophia Darsch, outreach specialist for the Sustainability Office, and featured seasonal refreshments of cider and popcorn, along with prizes for participants.

The interactive game provided an engaging way for attendees to learn about Mass Save programs and Acton’s local clean energy initiatives. Topics covered included scheduling a Home Energy Assessment, exploring renewable energy options, and identifying rebates and incentives offered through both the Town of Acton and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Following the game, two-thirds of attendees remained to ask specific questions about improving energy efficiency in their homes. Darsch was joined by one of Acton’s Clean Energy coaches, who offered additional guidance and resources to residents.

As part of her ongoing outreach, Sophia Darsch will hold regular office hours at the Acton Senior Center beginning Wednesday, November 5, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. She will continue to be available on the first and third Wednesdays each month to answer questions about home energy assessments, Acton Power Choice, and other rebates and assistance programs designed to help residents manage energy costs.
