Tuesday, September 3 was primary day in Massachusetts. According to preliminary results from the Town Clerk’s office, 3623 ballots were cast, which represents 22.7% of registered voters in Acton. For primaries, you vote for your chosen party. Unenrolled voters can choose to vote with any party. For this election, the Democratic and Republican ballots each had one contested race; the Libertarian ballot had no contested races.
In the Democratic primary, in a hotly contested race for Governor’s Councillor in the 3rd District, Mara Dolan beat incumbent Marilyn Petitto Devaney District-wide, 52.2% to 47.8%. In Acton, Dolan received 1718 (55.51%) Democratic votes compared to 1154 (37.29%) votes for Petitto Devaney, with a few write-ins.
On the Republican side, John Deaton handily won a three-way race for the Senate nomination, with 135,463 votes (65%) statewide and 307 (59%) of Acton Republican votes. He will run against Democratic incumbent Elizabeth Warren in November.

Elections November 5, 2024
The state and national elections are coming up, with Tuesday, November 5 as the last day to vote. If you are not registered to vote, you must register no later than October 26. You can register either at the Town Clerk’s office or online at Register To Vote!
This November’s election includes votes for national and state officials, as well as five ballot measures. More information will be available in upcoming editions of the Acton Exchange.
