Mother nature has assisted in the digging out from Monday’s blizzard, by raising the temperature a bit. But for a while there, the winds were whipping up and so were the communications about closures from Town government and local entities such as Acton TV, trash pick-up services, and Acton Medical Associates. School was canceled Monday and, ultimately, for Tuesday as well. On Monday morning, February 23, the Town announced that municipal buildings, transfer station, and transportation services would be closed for the day, and Town staff would be working remotely. It also provided emergency contact information for Eversource in case of outages, and advised residents how to stay safe during and after the storm. At that time, there were no power outages yet and there was one tree down, on Adams St.
In the days after the storm, Acton kept residents apprised of cleanup schedules via the Town news. The Select Board meeting scheduled for Monday night was changed to a virtual-only meeting. The National Weather Service reported a 9 inch snow total for Acton, but the Acton Exchange requests forgiveness for the punny headline, since Concord’s total was 11½ inches and Ayer’s was 15.1 inches.
The weight of the heavy snow and the high wind brought down trees and limbs all over town. On Monday afternoon, Eversource’s power outage tracker showed 287 customers without electricity, with the cause listed as “tree limbs.”

John Mangiaratti commented to the Acton Exchange that “the DPW has had a very busy year, and I am thankful and proud of the work that they have been doing to keep the streets and sidewalks clear.”
