The Acton Fire Department responded late Saturday night to a shed fire, as temperatures hovered in the single digits. On Saturday, Jan. 31, at about 11:06 p.m., Acton Fire received two 911 calls reporting a fire at 278 School St. When crews arrived, they found a 10-by-10-foot shed completely engulfed in flames. The shed was located well away from nearby buildings, preventing the fire from spreading.

Firefighters quickly brought the blaze under control and extinguished it. No injuries were reported.

The shed contained lawn mowing equipment and related materials, including gasoline. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Chief Anita Arnum reminds residents to use extra caution during the ongoing extreme cold weather. “With these frigid temperatures, people are relying more on heating equipment and generators and handling fuel more often, so we urge everyone to take extra precautions right now and make sure equipment is used and stored safely,” Chief Arnum said. “I also want to commend our firefighters for their quick response and strong work in knocking down this fire. We were fortunate that there were no nearby buildings, because outdoor fires can spread quickly and cause significant damage.”
