Acton Fire and Police respond to crash involving vehicle and train

The Acton Police and Fire Departments responded Thursday evening when a commuter rail train struck a vehicle that was stopped on Central Street at the train tracks.

On Thursday, Nov. 6, at approximately 5:30 p.m., the Acton Police and Fire Departments were called to the area of 117 Central St., for a report that a commuter rail train had struck a vehicle at the railroad crossing.

Based on reporting from WCVB, the driver of the car drove around the crossing gates and onto the tracks, before leaving the vehicle.

First responders arrived to discover that a driver whose vehicle was stopped on the tracks exited the vehicle before the train made impact. The vehicle was pushed about 300 feet down the tracks before it and the train came to a stop.

Acton firefighters evaluated a total of 44 people who were on the train, as well as the vehicle’s driver. There were no reported injuries.

Acton Firefighters also worked to contain a fuel spill from the vehicle that was struck, and notified the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection.

The crash remains under investigation by MBTA Transit Police.
