The Acton Democratic Town Committee (ADTC) hosted the local Democratic Caucus on March 15 at Congregation Beth Elohim in Acton. The purpose of the Caucus is to select delegates to attend the annual Massachusetts Democratic State Convention, which this year will be held on May 29 and 30 at the DCU Center in Worcester.
Because of Acton’s excellent voting record and participation at past conventions, Acton-allotted delegates were increased to 16 voting delegates and 4 alternates. The elected delegates for this year’s convention are: Linda Blanco, Jim Carey, Ginny Dow, Glen Cote, Sam Fieldman, Sravya Hamsala, Greg Jarboe, Stella Ko, Miriam Lezak, David Martin, Pam Nourse, Alex Rikleen, Leslie Rikleen, Charles Smith, Jacob Uzman, and Ellen Valade. Alternates are Rosemary Barnett, David Cote, Nicky Osborne, and Dylan Stark. Several ABRHS and college students will be attending as youth delegates, and ADTC Chair Sahana Purohit will be attending ex-officio.

The Caucus also provided an opportunity to hear from several of our elected State officials, including Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan, State Auditor Diana DiZoglio, State Senator Jamie Eldridge, and Acton’s two State Representatives – Simon Cataldo representing the 14th Middlesex District and Dan Sena, who represents the six towns that comprise the 37 Middlesex District.

The Acton Democratic Town Committee is your local arm of the Democratic Party. Acton DTC members also seek to share a common vision aligned with the principles of the Democratic Party and work locally in a variety of ways to support these principles. Acton DTC members are committed to advocating for elected officials who pledge to ensure equal justice for all and will advocate for policies that move our town, our state, and our country forward, and stand in solidarity against racism, hatred, discrimination, and bigotry.

Recently the ADTC organized the March 28 No Kings Rally at Acton Town Hall. The rally was attended by about 250 people, who voiced their hopes and concerns for the country. Other recent community service events by the ADTC include regular trail clearings at The Trail Through Time in North Acton, clearing invasive plants from Ice House Pond and Robbins Mill Pond, and food collections for the Acton Food Pantry. Each year the ADTC also awards the Evelyn Olschewski Scholarship to a graduating ABRS senior.
