Acton-Boxborough Schools embark on two-phase strategic planning initiative

June 14, 2025

The Acton-Boxborough Regional School District (ABRSD) has launched a comprehensive, two-phase strategic planning process aimed at shaping the future of our schools. This initiative, A-B Forward: Shaping our future together, will address evolving educational needs, fiscal sustainability, and declining enrollment, ensuring the district continues to provide an exceptional learning environment for all students.

The first phase, the Strategic Planning Phase, is currently underway and will run from June through September. During this period, a multi-stakeholder Steering Committee, in partnership with the District Management Group (DMGroup), will be developing a foundational strategic plan. This critical phase involves analyzing current challenges and opportunities, defining core priorities, and setting a clear direction for the district. The output of this phase will guide subsequent discussions and decisions.

The second phase of the process will focus on options for the reorganization of schools. Building upon the strategic framework established in the first phase, this stage will explore potential changes to the district’s structure, including the number of schools, grade configurations, and specific educational programs. The goal is to identify innovative and effective models that support student success while ensuring long-term financial viability.

Crucially, community feedback on the reorganization options will be a central component of the second phase, running from mid-September through December. ABRSD is committed to a transparent and inclusive process, recognizing that community input is vital to developing a plan that truly reflects the values and needs of Acton and Boxborough.

Your voice is integral to this process. Community members are strongly encouraged to participate in the Strategic Planning Survey to share their initial perspectives and provide valuable input for the ongoing strategic planning efforts.
