Acton and Boxborough’s newest (and soon-to-be!) neighbors were celebrated in a joyful and resource-rich way as Acton-Boxborough Community Compass (ABCC) hosted its first-ever Community Baby Shower at the AB Resource Center on March 1.
Dozens of new and expecting parents gathered on Sunday afternoon for an event designed to support parents during one of life’s most exciting — and sometimes overwhelming — transitions. The event combined practical resources with meaningful connection, creating a welcoming space for families to learn, explore, and build community.
Families were invited to “shop” a free Baby Boutique filled with donated maternity clothing, baby clothes, and gear.
In addition to the boutique, more than a dozen local practitioners and community partners were on hand to answer questions and provide guidance on topics including early intervention, pediatric speech-language development, pelvic floor health, pediatric physical therapy, nutrition services such as WIC, and local baby activities. Families also participated in mindfulness and yoga demonstrations, as well as a pelvic floor education session.

“This is what community looks like,” said ABCC board member Maria Leblanc, who helped lead the planning effort. “Local dollars raised here stay here — and events like this show the power of neighbors coming together to support one another.”
The event was made possible through partnerships with local organizations and generous donations of baby items and supplies. Volunteers played a central role in welcoming families, restocking tables, and ensuring the afternoon ran smoothly. A grant from Emerson Health’s Christine Gallery Community Benefit Grant Program offset expenses and provided each of the new parents with an event tote bag to collect their treasures.

The Community Baby Shower reflects ABCC’s broader mission: to address unmet needs, create opportunities, and foster connection across Acton and Boxborough. In a time when many families face uncertainty, ABCC aims to serve as a trusted place for information, resources, and belonging.
