AB baseball feasts on Waltham walks, while defense, pitching shut down Hawks

May 31, 2025

Despite being outhit 10-6, The AB Revolution took advantage of nine Waltham walks, while giving up only three themselves, to earn a 7-5 win over the Hawks on Senior Night. Trailing 2-0 in the third inning, the Revs broke the ice in their half when Leo Ciccone scored on a double steal after hitting a leadoff single, and advancing on a wild pitch and a walk. The home team added five more runs with hits by Evan Foh, Kyle Leite, and Graeme Giannetto (his second of the game), and a sacrifice fly by Ciccone, in his second plate appearance of the inning.

Waltham began to claw back in the fourth when leadoff hitter Tim O’Toole stroked his third hit–and second triple–of the game. A walk, an error, and hits by Connor Gavin and Billy Champion closed the gap to 6-5 before Revs relief pitcher Levi Straayer, who had entered the game with two outs, induced a popup to end the inning. In the bottom half, AB plated an insurance run when the Waltham reliever walked his first three batters, setting up Leite’s sac fly to drive in Jackson Healy.

AB showed off their tight defense in the sixth, with an inning-ending double-play, Healy to Leite to Pratt. But their work wasn’t done. Waltham put the tying runs on base with two outs in the seventh, by way of an error and a single, setting the stage for some heroics from O’Toole. But Levi Straayer had other ideas, as he recorded his second strikeout against the slugger, sending the Hawks fans home disappointed.

The Revs are now 5-11, after losing, 4-2, to Cambridge Rindge and Latin on May 14. On May 18, they played Lincoln-Sudbury at LeLacheur Park in Lowell, and on the 19th visited Boston English. On May 21, they travelled to Wayland.
