West Acton Baptist Church is undertaking a major construction project. The steeple is being repaired and painted. All of the woodwork is being prepared and re-painted, and the compromised metal roofs are being replaced. Some of the rotted woodwork will be duplicated.

I had the opportunity to climb the pipe staging all the way to the top where the weathervane is mounted. The top half of the weathervane was on the ground being re-gilded.

As a retired general contractor who has done some historical restoration work, I was fascinated by the job and the extra effort it takes to work high off the ground. Lucas, the project manager for Painter’s Pride, the contractor on the job, led me up the many flights of stairs while explaining what was being done.

The project manager expects the job will be completed by early-to-mid September.
