DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, October 18 at 8:00 PM\, and Sunday\, October 19 at 2:30 PM\, the Concord Orchestra presents a program called “Always in Motion” at the 51 Walden Performing Arts Center in Concord\, highlighting the Montgomery Variations. A pre-concert talk is scheduled for 7:15 on Saturday. \nAlso on the program will be Javelin by Michael Torke. Javelin was commissioned by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra for its 50th anniversary and it was performed at the opening ceremony of the Atlanta Summer Olympics in 1996. \nThe concert will conclude with Samuel Barber’s lyrical Symphony No. 1 which combines the four movements of a classical symphony into a single movement. It is modeled after Jean Sibelius’s Symphony No. 7\, which is also in one movement. \nTickets for adults and seniors are $25. Admission for youth under 18 is free. Topics include Native American history\, the use of natural resources\, the importance of Colonel Francis Faulkner and Acton’s West Militia Company\, the longtime role of the Jones and Faulkner families\, the impact of the railroad\, and visit nearby historic buildings\, including those owned by the Iron Work Farm. \nTour leader Amy Cole is an accomplished professional tour leader and has been improving this tour every time she does it. She grew up near Acton Center and knows the town well. She has a wide-ranging interest in Acton’s unique history. In addition\, the main power plant broke down last fall\, resulting\nin widespread power outages across the island for several weeks. Since then\, electricity has\nbeen rationed\, and families can expect to have power for only a few hours each day. Food and\nwater are also rationed. The people are struggling to survive. \nProceeds from the event will benefit the congregation of the Second Baptist Church in Santiago\nde Cuba and neighboring communities.
